About this Event

Here is the shortened, print-ready version of the Relaxed Opening / Home Educator Day overview. I have removed all external links and added the requested disclaimer regarding activities.

What is a Relaxed Opening / Home Educator Day?

Our special Relaxed Openings are created exclusively for families within the neurodiverse community, offering a calm, quiet environment to explore the world’s largest collection of working historic computers. These days are particularly suited to visitors with autism or other special needs, who are welcome to attend with siblings, parents, and carers.

On the Day: Journey from WWII electro-mechanical code-breaking machines to the birth of the digital era and the rise of personal computing. To support a stress-free visit, the Museum provides a Visual Story and Sensory Map, and all activities are drop-in sessions so learners can self-direct without the pressure of a formal schedule.

Drop-In Activities & Workshops:

  • Robot Rescue (Ages 6-10): Help George the Robot find his mini-bot friends and decipher a secret message using a real Enigma machine.
  • Interactive Digital Trails (Ages 11+): Tackle challenges like "Codename: Cipher," "Data Representation," and "Internet Explorers".
  • Coding & Robotics: Hands-on fun with Ozobots, Spheros, and beginner’s coding on pocket-sized Micro:bits.
  • Retro Programming: Step into our 80s classroom to create games on original, working BBC Micros.
  • Creative Tech: Seasonal Halloween crafts and immersive discovery in Minecraft for Education.
  • Augmented Reality: Use Osmo technology to blend real game pieces with digital learning in maths and arts.
