About this Event
During the holiday season, Public Square and Euclid Avenue were transformed into a winter wonderland, with twinkling lights, window displays and the magic of Christmas spirit in the air. Take a stroll down memory lane and remember why this stretch of Euclid earned its reputation as one of the largest shopping districts in the country, often compared to New York’s iconic Fifth Avenue.
During the early to mid-20th century, iconic department stores such as Higbee’s, May Company, Taylor’s, Sterling-Lindner-Davis, and Halle’s lined Euclid Avenue and the south side of Public Square. These stores became famous for their elaborate window displays and festive holiday traditions. Today, many of these historic buildings have been adaptively redeveloped into housing and retail spaces, while retaining their original architectural grandeur.
