Want to dive deep into the world of decommodified, shared equity housing? Join us for the Northwest Coalition of Community Land Trust’s annual gathering, hosted by Front Step, right here in Missoula at the University of Montana!
Tickets for a half day on October 6th and include breakfast, the welcome session and CLT 101, the plenary session, and lunch. This event is open to the public! Visit nwcltc.org to purchase via Whova.
As this year’s host organization, we’re so excited to bring community land trust homeowners, partners, practitioners, and supporters from Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and from across Montana to learn from one another. Hope you’ll join us!
More on the Plenary:
This session will feature two presentations on disaster extraction and resilience. The first presentation will demonstrate how Lahaina CLT is using the CLT model to combat predatory post-disaster land grabs (i.e., disaster capitalism), build cross-community solidarity, and rematriate land for indigenous stewardship. The second presentation will share findings from an international research study on how CLTs are engaging in creative, place-based strategies to strengthen disaster resilience. Themes include CLTs as vehicles for Land Back and rematriation, sustainable and disaster-resilient building, community connection, mutual learning across CLT networks, and de-centering land as a commodity while promoting land stewardship.
Presenters: Autumn Ness, Executive Director of Lahaina CLT and Amber Khan, PhD, Disaster Researcher at the University of Washington
