hoʻonanea: verb. To pass the time in ease, peace, and pleasure; to relax, lounge, repose; absorbed, contented.
We are thrilled to present Hoʻonanea: A Vintage Experience at Hānaiakamalama, a unique and immersive tour at one of Honolulu’s most honored and revered historic homes. Queen Emma Summer Palace is a timeless symbol of classic Hawaiian elegance and contemporary style.
When you arrive at 9 AM, you’ll select a vintage muʻumuʻu to wear for the event. Choose from the expansive and colorful collection of exceptional aloha wear from our partner, Muʻumuʻu Library. Next, learn from the knowledgeable Kumu Kuhi how to create a fresh floral hairpiece to complete your ensemble. Choose your blooms and build your lei po’o. With your beautiful, vintage Hawaiian ensemble completed, you’ll step back in time with a docent-led tour of the historic Palace to learn more about Queen Emma, the royal family, and their lives in old Hawaiʻi. Finish your immersion in Hawaiian history with a light picnic lunch of delicious delicacies. Dine together on the terrace overlooking the lush tropical gardens or at the neighboring park. You may bring your own table-setting with linens and china, though tables and chairs are limited.
Plan on being on site from 9 AM to 2 PM. The three-hour morning program is co-sponsored by the Daughters of Hawaiʻi and Queen Emma Summer Palace, brought to you in partnership with Kumu Kuhi and Muʻumuʻu Library. From noon to 2 PM, enjoy the provided lunch.
General admission is $75.
Members of Daughters of Hawaiʻi or Calabash Cousins are $65.
Companion fee is $60 (which gives you access to the event but not use of a vintage mu’umu’u)
