The Captain and crew of HMAS Ballarat will be honoured to be able to take part in a Freedom of Entry march through the streets of Ballarat. This is the highest honour that a city can provide to a military unit, and the tradition dates back to medieval times. It allows for swords to be drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating and bands playing.The parade starts at the bottom of Sturt St at 10:30am, marching up Sturt St to the Town Hall where the crew will be challenged for the right to enter the city by senior Victorian Police. From there the parade will continue to the Cenotaph, ending on Lyons St.
