At the H.I.T. we focus on teaching the basics, as well as offer courses and workshops that focus on your professional development as a performing artist. writer, or filmmaker. During this open house you'll get a preview of the following classes:

H.I.T. Core Improv Academy:

This series of classes is designed to spark excitement for improv. Whether you're here for the love of performing or just to try something new, the goal is to teach skills in a fun, encouraging way. Lessons in acceptance, vulnerability, and teamwork aren’t just for the stage—they make you a better partner, parent, coworker, friend, and person. Through our 5-level program, you'll learn the basics, hone in on timing, develop character archetypes, and even gain insight into ways to use these skills professionally in your career.

Context-Specific Improvisation (CSI): Training for Hollywood Improv:

Context-Specific Improvisation (CSI) puts players in familiar, scripted-style environments—like a hospital, police station, or courtroom—while assigning them distinct roles. By focusing on truthful reactions rather than chasing laughs, performers develop stronger instincts, adaptability, and real-world improv skills suited for TV, film, and commercials. Through this approach, actors enhance their ability to “yes and” in real time, making bold choices that feel natural, dynamic, and deeply engaging.

H.I.T. COMEDY: Filmmaking + Content Creation 1:

“Filmmaking + Content Creation 1” is a comprehensive six-week course designed for aspiring filmmakers and content creators who are passionate about comedy. This course provides hands-on experience in the entire filmmaking process, from developing an idea to showcasing a final project. Students will learn how to leverage filmmaking to enhance their comedic content, gaining insights into the latest trends and techniques in the industry.

Improv Puppetry: Bringing Characters to Life Through Play

Discover the magic of puppetry and improvisation in this fun and engaging six-week course! Perfect for performers of all backgrounds, this class explores the fundamentals of puppet manipulation, character development, and spontaneous storytelling. Through collaboration and play, students will build confidence, enhance their performance skills, and learn to create compelling, unscripted scenes that connect with audiences in exciting new ways.

Writing for Late Night / Variety:
By the end of this interactive 5-week course, you'll learn what head writers and producers are looking for to get your submission into shape. In this class, you'll receive a crash-course on Late Night & Variety writing, paired with career advice to get your foot in the door.

Comedy Buffet: An Introduction to Comedy

"Comedy Buffet" is an 8-week crash course that offers a comprehensive approach to comedy through emotional, professional, and interpersonal development. Master the fundamentals of improv, standup, sketch, character creation, and pilot writing to kickstart your comedic career.

Self-Tape Fundamentals:

Whether you're prepping for your next big audition or want to sharpen your skills, this class will provide you with techniques, practice skills, and the tools you need to succeed!

Stand Up Comedy:

This beginner-friendly course introduces the fundamentals of stand-up comedy, teaching you how to craft and deliver jokes that make people laugh. You'll develop essential skills like public speaking, storytelling, and comedic timing while learning writing techniques that enhance both performances and everyday conversations. The course also covers strategies for getting stage time, overcoming stage fright, and navigating the comedy world. Whether you’re looking to perform regularly or just add humor to your presentations, this class will give you the tools to succeed!
