Welcome to our Sunday workshop series at the GUU! Each workshop is run as a standalone workshop with different material and themes, followed by a social.
**********
Sunday 6th October
2–3:30pm: Workshop
3:30–5pm: Social
Location: Glasgow University Union, Drawing Room
Workshop description:
Hit Me With A Hot Note
A Lindy Hop and Jazz workshop focusing on musicality, with real musicians to help us learn how to interpret jazz music! The workshop will be taught together with the Jack Heavenor Quartet and will focus on and how we can connect to the music with our dancing! We aim to improve your understanding of jazz and swing music, with the hope that this will bring more joy and freedom in your partnered and solo dancing!
**********
£12 for workshop + social
£10 for social only
Concessions £10/£8
Payment by cash or card on the door.
Please note that this workshop is not for new beginners - we will not be teaching any fundamental Lindy Hop moves therefore a basic understanding of partnered dance is required.
Thinking about coming along but not quite sure what to expect? Check out our FAQs:
* What do I wear?
- Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in - dress up fancy if you like but casual clothing is also welcome.
* What shoes should I wear?
- We recommend comfortable flat shoes with little to no heel that are not too grippy (so you can spin!).
* I've never danced before - can I still come along?
- Some dancing experience is preferable as we will not be teaching any fundamental Lindy Hop moves. We will cover some fundamental jazz steps as part of the musicality class.
* Do I need a dance partner?
- No dance partner needed but feel free to bring your friends/enemies/casual acquaintances! We will have partner rotation during class so you do not need to dance with the same partner (although if you would rather dance with the same partner then that is fine!).
* Is there somewhere to buy a drink?
- There is a bar downstairs in the GUU where you can buy drinks and bring them up or refill your water bottle.
* How much is a ticket?
- Tickets are £12pp for the workshop and social, or £10pp for the social only. Tickets available on the door. Both the workshop and the social will have live music from the Jack Heavenor Quartet!
* Can I pay by card?
- Yes you can! We accept cash or card payments on the door. The nearest cash machine is on the corner of Bank Street and Gibson Street by the convenience store.
* How do I get to the GUU?
- The nearest subway station is Kelvinbridge. There is a bus stop just outside the University Union where you can catch the number 4, 4A, and 15 buses.
Please message us if you have any other questions!
Covid notes:
- We do not require proof of a negative lateral flow test on entry, or evidence of Covid vaccination
- Mask wearing is optional
- Hand sanitiser will be available at the door for everyone to use if they wish
- The windows will be kept open for good ventilation
We ask you to not attend the class and social if:
- You are suffering from Covid symptoms
- You are a close contact of someone who has recently tested positive
See you on the dancefloor!
