About this Event
Join tpl:map partner Bata Shoe Museum for an interactive presentation that explores global history through the lens of shoes. From Renaissance Europe chopines to sandals made in Africa and handcrafted Indigenous moccasins, this program invites participants to walk in the footsteps of people from different times, places, and social standings. Using footwear as a starting point, we will examine how materials, function, and design reveal deeper cultural and historical narratives. Participants will uncover stories of status and class, rituals and traditions, innovation and adaptation - all told through shoes.
After the presentation, children are invited to design and colour their own (paper) sneakers. Glam it up with decorative gem stickers! Sneaker templates and supplies will be provided. For kids ages 6-12.
Registration starts Monday, September 15 at 9 am. Register in-branch or online (see link below).
If you or your child lives with a disability, and requires an accessibility accommodation to participate in this program, please contact Accessibility Services by email [email protected], or voicemail, 416-393-7099, to make a request. Please contact us at least three weeks in advance.
