Everybody goes to school, but did you know that formal education in DHS began in a homesteader’s dugout in 1912 where the children wrote their letters in the sand floor with a twig? Since that time, Desert Hot Springs has grown to have 5 Elementary Schools, 2 Middle Schools, and its own High School! Learn what it was like growing up and going to school here over the years as our panel of speakers share photos and experiences from the earliest school through the current day. Speakers include Larry Peters, (currently writing a play about Ethel Rouse and her dugout school,) Randa Ray, Jill Hibbard, Mary Gerardi, Ivan and Breanna Sewell, and Superintendent Dr. Funchess. If you have one, bring your elementary school photo! Our history lectures are designed to enrich our understanding of DHS and the Coachella Valley. Suggested donation: $5 per person. Tickets: Available at the door.
