About this Event

Tickets not currently for sale. They will go live when the events are published by Heritage Open Days in early June.

The New River is neither new nor a river. It is a water supply aqueduct, completed in 1613 and still in use today as part of the network that brings drinking water from Hertfordshire to North London.

We will start at the statue of Hugh Myddelton who was fundamental in the creation the New River in Islington Green, past key landmarks ending at The Oak Rooms, New River Head, the old headquarters of the Metropolitan Water Board. You will find out more about London's water supply and how it has evolved over time.

The guided walk will compliment Nick Higham's recently published book 'The Mercenary River'. Nick is a former journalist who spent nearly 30 years as a BBC correspondent. He lives close to the course of the New River in Stoke Newington.
