About this Event

Join us at the Sexploratorium for a thought-provoking journey through the complex and dynamic tapestry of feminist history in our class, "Exploring the History of Feminism." From the suffragist movements of the 19th century to the intersectional feminism of today, this class offers a comprehensive exploration of the diverse voices, ideologies, and struggles that have shaped the feminist movement.

Delve into the rich history of feminist thought and activism, examining key milestones, figures, and movements that have shaped our understanding of gender, power, and equality. Through engaging lectures, multimedia presentations, and interactive discussions, participants will gain insight into the historical context of feminist struggles and achievements, and explore the ongoing challenges and debates within the feminist movement.

From the first wave of feminism focused on women's suffrage and legal rights, to the second wave's emphasis on reproductive rights and gender equality, to the intersectional and inclusive approaches of contemporary feminism, this class offers a nuanced exploration of the evolving ideologies and goals of the feminist movement.

This class also invites participants to critically examine the intersections of feminism with race, class, sexuality, and other axes of identity, exploring how different forms of oppression intersect and influence each other. By centering the voices and experiences of marginalized communities, this class seeks to foster a more inclusive and intersectional understanding of feminism that acknowledges and addresses the diverse needs and experiences of all women.

Whether you're new to feminism or a seasoned activist, the History of Feminism offers valuable insights and perspectives for understanding the historical roots and contemporary relevance of the feminist movement. Join us as we explore the past, present, and future of feminism, and engage in meaningful conversations about gender, power, and social change.
