This year, we are once again kicking off the Ozark Mountain Festival in Eminence on Friday, May 1st. We have a night of fascinating local history lined up for you at the Shannon County Museum! At 5:30pm, Suzanne Rayfield McKenzie will be joining us to present her new book, ‘Celia’s Blue Spring’. The book tells the tale of a young girl who migrates to our corner of the Ozarks, settling on the land around the famous Blue Spring on the Current River. Suzanne will be introducing you to Celia and talking about the journey of writing this story.
At 6:15pm, we will break for refreshments, and at this time Renee Rowden’s ‘Hal Orr’ lemonade stand will be set up outside. The lemonade stand has been an annual hit.
At 6:30pm, we will return inside where Keith Powell will present his extensive research on the cemeteries of the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers. Keith has mapped locations and gathered information about every burial plot he can, and will have intriguing history to share with us. Keith is a wealth of knowledge.
The museum will be open to walk around, so you can take a look at our new exhibits and improved reference library. We have been hard at work over the last couple months updating the museum as we’ve conducted our inventory and digitization project. Come see something new, or something you missed last time! Join us for the kick-off of the Ozark Mountain Festival on Friday, May 1st at 5:30pm.
