The Morgantown History Museum will the opening of their newest exhibit, "History in Harmony: The Gospel Singing Koon Family", on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm.The exhibit invites visitors to step inside one of Morgantown’s most beloved musical legacies. For over sixty years, the Koon Family performed in churches and community centers as well as on the radio. Their music offered harmony, hope, and a deep sense of belonging to the listening audience. Whether you grew up hearing the Koon Family sing or are discovering them for the first time, this exhibit offers a moving reminder of how local stories can leave a lasting legacy.
This immersive exhibit celebrates how one Monongalia County family shaped the region’s gospel music tradition through rare photographs, original recordings, personal artifacts, and oral histories. During the opening, visitors will meet the people behind the voices, and discover how music became a connecting force across generations.
The "History in Harmony" exhibit will run until Sunday, May 10, 2026. If you cannot attend the opening event, then you can view the exhibit during regular museum hours:
Wednesday- Friday, 11am-5pm
Saturday- Sunday, 12pm-6pm
