About this Event
The goal of this one-day program for kids is to ignite a love of history in children, bring young people into our museum sites, and spark friendships amongst the children. We hope to offer three or four History Hunter programs this year, each with a different theme. For this first program, our theme will be America 250 and early Delaware County. Led by retired educators, the day will include music, dance, storytelling, corn grinding, tin smithing, calligraphy, and more.
After we have welcomes, introductions, and an ice breaker, we will visit the Native American display at Meeker to talk about Prehistoric and Historic Indians in our county. We will play drums, and rattles during a Native American inspired dance /call and response song. We’ll try our hand at corn-grinding, and make a historic Indian tool.
After lunch we will play a variety of Native American and pioneer games.
In the afternoon we will explore the lifestyle of early European settlers. We will listen to a story of the Penry boys, try writing with quill pens and on slates, practice tin smithing and more. The day will end with a Scavenger Hunt for Historical stories and events with fun prizes.
You will receive an email from Cindy Kerr ([email protected]) requesting the children's name, grade level, and emergency forms in the weeks ahead of the camp. Please make sure the e-mail that Eventbrite has for you is up-to-date.
