About this Event

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: CEMETERY TOUR FOLLOWING CIVIL WAR CEREMONY

Connect with Galveston's rich history in a unique way. This tour explores the captivating beauty of Trinity Cemetery, in Galveston's Historic Broadway Cemetery District. As we wander through the peaceful grounds, you'll have the chance to discover intricate symbolism adorning gravestones and monuments, each telling a unique story about the lives and beliefs of those laid to rest. Get ready to be transported through time as we unravel the tales of those who now find their eternal rest in these hallowed grounds.

Your host will be Kathleen Maca, author of Galveston's Broadway Cemeteries, who has been featured on Texas Country Reporter, Texas Chronicles, Texas Monthly, Texas Highways, Discovery + and the Magnolia Network. A local historian and writer, she has spent over 50 years researching historic cemeteries and is a Certified Tourism Ambassador.

IMMEDIATELY BEFORE MY TOUR, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will conduct a memorial service for the Union soldiers and sailors who died during the 1863 Battle of Galveston. This is a wonderful opportunity to see uniformed re-enactors pay tribute to their ancestors. The re-enactment is free to attend, and begins at 10 a.m.

Tour begins following the ceremony.
