Black History Walks in London Volume One is out in bookshops and on Audible. www.blackhistorywalks.co.uk This unique book, examines the streets of London from an African/Caribbean perspective and tells stories that the typical history books and tour guides never cover.
In this interactive presentation we will hear about Black World War 2 heroes, Ancient African architecture, museums of stolen goods, amazing black films, scientists/inventors, secret food history, black gold, pirates and much more.
We will also hear about Jacaranda Books and their pioneering Twenty in 2020 initiative which published 20 books by 20 Black British authors in one year, an unprecedented feat.
This event is part of Black History Month and Barnet Libraries Creative Communities programme. in partnership with The African Cultural Association.
Tony Warner is a community activist and historian.
He is also the founder of Black History Walks in London, a group which explores the Caribbean and African history of the capital via 12 guided walks, talks, films, courses, bus tours and river cruises.
The tours have been featured on various national and international media such as CNN, BBC, ITV, The Guardian, Channel 4. Since 2011, in an ongoing collaboration with the Nubian Jak charity he has sponsored 10 Black historical blue plaques across London and researched 5 more.
From Southwark to Westminster, Black History Walks takes you through historical sites, highlighting the embedded history of Black Britons around the city of London and its fundamental links to Africa. Black History Walks is an essential read for anyone wishing to understand the history and culture of one of the oldest and most influential metropolises in the world.
