This August, as Madison braces for the annual chaos of student move-outs and mass apartment turnovers, Hippie Christmas Fest will be a creative strategy session, community festival, and mutual aid hub that brings Madison together to share resources. A community-building answer to the challenges of a day when so many people in Madison are moving homes, and some don't even have homes. Whether you're moving or not, come to James Madison Park, Friday, August 15 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm for refreshments and respite!Music and arts: Music from Sapsucker, Blasfemme, and more, with arts and crafts on display from Occupy Madison artists.
Mutual aid: Free school supplies, clothes, books, and more at the Really Really Free Market "back to school" version organized by 50501 WI - Madison.
Skill sharing: Hands-on skill-shares and organizing sessions on tenant defense, repairs, gardening, and how to plug in to local groups, with Madison Tenant Power, the Tenant Resource Center, and the Dane County Homeless Justice Initiative.
Organized by local activists and supported by the LAB^4 program.
LAB^4 is a community curation project that is made possible through a Wisconsin Special Projects Grant from the Ruth Foundation for the Arts. This project was developed by a team of visual, literary, and performing artists and high school students who are exploring the theme of "home." All of the Lab^4 programs are free and open to the public, including exhibitions at Arts + Literature Laboratory, events, and workshops. You can also visit six new "Little Free Art Libraries" across Madison. Stop by ALL to pick up a zine with more information on each artist who has reenvisioned an existing Little Free Library - maybe one is your neighborhood! Visit our calendar to learn more.
