Let's explore the charming villages and beautiful hills of northwest Essex on a fun hiking adventure!GRADE: Intermediate circular hike, 22 km (13.5 miles), with 245 m ascent/239 m descent and about 6 hours walking time.
Join us for a beautiful walk through woodlands, gentle hills and picturesque villages of this lovely corner of Essex. We'll start out from Audley End station and the village of Wendens Ambo ('both Wendens' after the villages Great and Little Wenden joined) and a farming community that has likely been here since the 6th or 7th century.
We'll head past traditional thatched cottages and farmland and make our way to pretty Arkesden, with more than 30 Grade II listed buildings, and then in the outskirts of Chrishall village. We'll join the Icknield Way, one of the oldest thoroughfares in the country before finishing back in Wendens Ambo, where you're welcome to join us with a drink at a local pub, a decent way to finish a hike!
COST: £11.60
MEETING TIME: 8:25 at London Liverpool Street mainline station outside Upper Crust sandwich shop, by the platforms. Second meeting point outside Audley End Stationat 09:50.
TRAINS: 8:58 train from London Liverpool Street arriving at Audley End at 9.50,starting and finishing the hike back at Audley End station. Train tickets return to Audrey End station cost approx £16 if purchased with Network railcard or group save ticket. Group save tickets can be purchased on the day of the eventent (minimum 3 people).
WALK STARTS: 9.55, leaving from Audley End station.
