Join the Framingham History Center and local historian Brett Peruzzi for a guided hike in Callahan State Park.As the largest green space in Framingham, Callahan State Park is a year-round destination for hiking, bird-watching, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. Yet before it became a state park more than 50 years ago, the land had been farmland for centuries. What traces of that history remain, and what stories do they tell?
On this two-mile hike, you will learn:
Who the park is named after
The park’s notable natural features and current uses
The history of the land and its agricultural legacy
How to spot clues in the forest that reveal its past
Cost: $15 ($5 off for FHC members)
The hike will cover rocky trails with several hills. Please wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for uneven terrain.
