About the Event ...Highlander Strings Camp is a blend of expert guidance and fun that will be held daily from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. Students must be entering the 2024-2025 school year as a 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th grader and have at least one year of string experience in order to participate. Instruments will be provided for each camper to use during the week. If your child prefers to bring an instrument from home that they own, they can absolutely do so.
The camp cost is $295. Wrap around care is available at an additional cost of $35/day and includes lunch. Wrap around care begins at 12:00 pm and ends at 3:00 pm. If your child is enrolled in Summer On The Farm, you will not need to pay for wrap around care.
Highlights include a special camp T-shirt and special guests (more about our special guests below)! We have a team of dedicated and award winning string educators including HHA's own Jessica DeGrazia working the camp!!
Special Guests - The Bridge Ensemble is an outreach project at UW-Madison distinguishable from our Faculty Ensembles.
Established in Fall of 2021, the group is designed to showcase a cross-section of music studies at UW-Madison. Assisted by Boltz Project Assistant and DPI-certified music educator Ben Ferris, the ensemble was created to engage students through flexible “informances” and collaborative music making, with the goal of increasing diversity of UW-Madison School of Music applicants. Comprised of a string quartet and a jazz quartet, the ensemble represents their genres, but also brings together different musical disciplines to perform music by a diverse group of composers, and inclusion of original compositions. We formed this ensemble (originally identified as the Bolz Ensemble) during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; the ensemble assists public school music teachers in re-invigorating and engaging their students in the human connection of music study and performance.
