Annual Highland County Fair ParadeSeptember 2, 2026
An Antique Vehicle Parade will start at 6 PM followed by the grand parade.
Starts on Spruce Street, travels down Main Street, up to Myers-Moon Road to the Fair!
They'll be LOTS of candy and other goodies thrown out!
- Parade entries will line up at the Highland Center in Monterey, VA from 4:30-5:30 PM.
- Motorized vehicles including fire trucks, rescue squads, logging vehicles, antique vehicles and other large trucks will meet at the Highland County Landfill at the end of Airport Terrace Road in Monterey for line-up.
- Participants are responsible for registering and obtaining an entry number at the on-site registration table between 4:30-5:30 PM.
- All entries should arrive by 5:30 PM. Late entries may not be judged or allowed to participate in the parade.
- Motorcycles/ATV/SxS entries must seek prior approval from the parade committee. Approved participants from last year do not need yearly approval to participate. Call (540) 468-2593 for approvals needed. No dirt bikes.
- This will be a “silent” parade—no sirens or startling noises.
- A licensed, insured operator must drive motorized vehicles (including tractors). Child-sized toy vehicles driven by minors must have adult supervision.
- All horses must have a valid negative Coggins presented at registration- NO EXCEPTIONS! For safety concerns, any horse/pony that gets frightened and/or hard to control must be led from the parade route immediately. Riders 12 years old and under must have adult supervision.
- All pet entries must be on a leash led and controlled by the handler. The handler is responsible for feces clean-up. NO PETS ALLOWED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS AFTER THE PARADE.
- The Highland Center Drive will be closed to traffic from 4:30-7:00 PM for parade line-up.
- The “Best Appearing” winner of each class and overall Judge’s Choice will be announced along with prizes by 8:30 PM in front of the old Fair Office. All first-place winners will receive a plaque in addition to prize money. Prizes not picked up on parade night will be in the Fair Office during fair week for pick up by 10 PM Saturday, September 5th or forfeited.
