Hidden Pearls is a heartfelt celebration of the life and words of Mertell Walker, a woman who discovered her passion for poetry, writing, and performance at the age of 50. What began as a personal journey into creativity grew into decades of expression, as she went on to write poetry and perform plays well into her 80s.
Her words capture the real stories of a working woman during the Windrush era — stories of motherhood, resilience, identity, humour, and everyday strength. Through her poetry, she spoke honestly about life, family, struggle, and joy, turning lived experience into art that continues to resonate across generations.
This book launch is more than an event — it is a gathering of community, family, and creativity. A space to honour her legacy, hear her words brought to life, and celebrate the reminder that it is never too late to follow your passion.
