About this Event

Featuring:

Anna Fleming

Renowned writer and alpinist, Anna Fleming will share stories from her recent expeditions to Nepal and Bolivia where she met remarkable women and discovered their astonishing journeys into alpinism at the tops of the world.

Anna Fleming is a writer and climber living in Scotland. She collects stories of people, mountains and nature from around the world. Her first book was shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize and Boardman-Tasker Award for Mountain Literature. She writes for The Guardian and UKClimbing and makes shows with BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Scotland.

Connect Outdoors

We will be joined by the mountain leaders who deliver the Connect Outdoors educational hiking programmes. Connect Outdoors is an initiative that empowers people from underrepresented communities to build connections with wild places in Scotland.

The mountain leaders from Mhor Outdoor, our partner in delivering Connect Outdoors, are deeply committed to inclusion. They will share their experiences guiding groups facing barriers to outdoor participation, be those financial, physical, or social. Through their work, they have created opportunities for moments of courage, confidence, and connection.

The Polar Academy

The Polar Academy are a Scottish based charity that believes in the power of ‘Inspiration through Exploration’. They work with young people struggling with their mental health or who feel ‘invisible’ and turn them into resilient role models by participating in a self-led, ten day skiing and sledge hauling Arctic expedition.

Hear how their intensive, yearlong programme of physical and mental health training, along with pastoral support for all the family, transforms vulnerable teens into positive, driven, confident young adults with newfound skills and aspirations. They then inspire others around them by sharing their story to the local community and further afield.

FREE Drinks and Nibbles will be available on the night.

All proceeds from the tickets sales will be donated to Scottish Mountain Rescue.
