About this Event
Land & Sea: A Hip Hop Healing Open Mic & Showcase
Celebrating National Poetry Month
Join us for Land & Sea, a HHH open mic and community showcase honouring National Poetry Month through storytelling, music, and collective reflection.
Hosted by Jermaine Henry (Main Man) and co-host Elle de Lyon, with sounds by Erik Flow, this evening invites Black youth and community members to explore what grounds us and what moves us.
Inspired by this year’s Poetry Month theme, Land & Sea, we’ll reflect on:
Land as roots, identity, history, and where we come from
Sea as emotion, change, healing, and where we are flowing.
What to Expect
- Open mic performances (poetry, rap, singing, storytelling)
- Interactive poetry activities led by Right Beside You Poetry Projects
- Live DJ set and curated vibes
- Cultural food and community connection
- A healing-centred, affirming space rooted in Hip Hop and Black expression
Open Mic Details
The open mic is exclusively for Black youth ages 12–29.
Spots are limited.
A sign-up form will be shared after RSVP for those interested in performing.
We encourage a BRAVE(R) stage:
Bold. Real. Accountable. Vulnerable. Expressive. Relational.
About the Space
This event is grounded in Hip Hop Healing, a culturally responsive approach to mental health that centers creativity, storytelling, and community care.
