Hosted in the vibrant creative home of Middle Child Theatre on Humber Street, this event brings together heritage professionals, planners, local authorities and community organisations, for a day dedicated to exploring how historic character and cultural assets can be central to sustainable renewal and regeneration.
As a proud UK City of Culture 2017, Hull has undergone a remarkable period of transformation of its waterfront, historic quarters, and cultural assets re-energised through bold investment and community-led ambition. This event offers a timely retrospective on Hull’s post–City of Culture regeneration journey, reflecting on the successes, challenges, and lessons learned that continue to shape the city’s evolving identity.
Positioned as a special precursor to the Cultural Tides conference on 13th March taking place at the Truck Theatre, the event will explore how maritime heritage such as docklands, shipyards, warehouses, and sea-faring stories can be reimagined as catalysts for cultural growth, economic vitality, and long-term community pride.

- Sector updates and emerging policy considerations for regeneration
- A retrospective look at Hull’s regeneration since its City of Culture year; what worked, what shifted, and what’s next in the pipeline

- Networking with regeneration specialists, heritage leaders, cultural strategists, and local change-makers.
- Site visits and tours of regeneration projects in work and completed projects including the flagship North-End Shipyard and the Passivhaus project.
