About this Event
Heritage in a Super-Diverse City
Join us for our insightful in-person community roundtables where we will discuss, explore, and help you record your intangible cultural heritage (otherwise known as living heritage).
Don't know what that is or if this is for you?
Don't worry we will discuss with you on the day in more detail what this means and the new national legislation (based off the UNESCO convention) that aims to record and safeguard this heritage BUT if you:
- have a collection of nursey rhymes, folk stories, or sayings
- have knowledge of local dialects, working songs and football chants, poetry
- perform specific dances, songs, or music
- play a special instrument
- have knowledge of traditions within your family/community (e.g. First Footing)
- have knowledge of traditional ways of looking after land
- have understanding of customs related to particular types of land or places
- cook a particular dish
- make something
- have a professional craft
- are involved in sports/games
- anything else that gives you a sense of identity and home feel like home
....then our event is for you!
In collaboration with IHBC and ICOMOS-UK and sponsored by the University of Liverpool and the UKRI AHRC, this is the first of our 3 workshops in relation to a study on the heritage in Liverpool (both local and transmitted). The overall goal of the project is to contribute towards the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the UK following the ratification of the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage and the UK's opening of the national inventories...and what better place to start than our University's home!
This workshop is community only and is intended to be a safe space to ensure that our research and the feedback in later workshops to organisations and government is community led.
So, discover how heritage shapes life in a super-diverse urban space, meet new people, and celebrate the unique stories that connect us all. Donβt miss this chance to explore traditions, share experiences, and enjoy a vibrant community vibe firsthand!
