In association with Eastwood Theatre, East Renfrewshire Heritage Service is showing this film as part of a season of screenings by local filmmaker Tom Marchant. Tom has been making local history films for a number of years in partnership with local organisations and historians. He has amassed a considerable body of work, and we are delighted to be showcasing these films in our brand-new cinema room at Eastwood House.
This film represents Tom’s first attempt at a serious documentary. He says “I made this film about 25 years ago using VHS equipment. Having spent my early years in Newton Mearns I felt I wanted to make a record of the village that I grew up in. I was fortunate enough to be able to interview several of the older generations and record their memories. It is now a record of a completely different Newton Mearns to that of today!
