Have you been meaning to capture the cherished stories and memories of a loved one but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you want to start capturing your own piece of history.
Join us for this special workshop as part of Australian Heritage Festival (18 April – 18 May 2026) in the Hurstville Library Media Lab. The 2026 Australian Heritage Festival theme is Change, encouraging us to consider how has history changed us and how are we changing history?
In this workshop podcasting and media professional Joseph Corr will take you through the basics of capturing yours and your family’s stories using everyday tools like your smartphone, bringing them to life and capturing them for generations to come.
In this program you will learn:
- Why family storytelling and preserving memories is important.
- How to prepare for an interview and interview techniques.
- How to get the most out of the recording equipment available to you, starting with your very own smartphone or microphones available from the library’s Digital Tool collection.
- The basics of post-production, free applications, and personal record keeping.
Cost: $8.50
Age: 16+
Skill level: No experience necessary.
Equipment: To participate in practical activities, attendees are encouraged to bring their smartphone.
About the Facilitator:
Joseph Corr has worked in media for over two decades, with experience at Disney, ESPN, Foxtel, and Channel 10. Currently, he is a Video Podcast Producer with 9Podcasts and Channel 9, specialising in content creation and production. With extensive industry knowledge, Joseph brings practical insights and real-world expertise to help you create and grow your own podcast.
About the Australian Heritage Festival:
The Australian Heritage Festival runs from Saturday 18 April – Monday 18 May. This year’s theme is , inviting communities across the country to reflect on how history has shaped us, and how we, in turn, continue to shape history.
About the Media Lab:
The Media Lab boasts a professional studio set up with a cyclorama wall, green screens, studio lights and Surface Studios with the full Adobe Creative Suite. The digital tool library contains cameras, recording equipment and other digital accessories that can be borrowed for free with your library membership.
