📅 Thursday May 21, 6-9PM
📍 FASHION ZONE @ TMU, 44 Gerrard St E Room 312, Toronto, ON M5B 1W7
Do you wish your clothes fit better or do you love a shirt that has a hole in it? Whether you’ve got jeans that bunch at the ankle, sleeves that go past your hands, or a dress that you've been holding on to in need of repair, this workshop is here to help!
Join us for a hands-on session where you'll learn how to mend and properly hem different types of garments including pants and shirts. We’ll show you how to patch holes, assess fit, mark the right length, and finish hems using both hand-sewing and machine sewing techniques, depending on the fabric and design.
🧵 What You’ll Learn:
- How to do a fitting and mark the ideal hem length
- When to hem by hand vs. machine (and how to do both!)
- Hemming tips for different types of fabrics and styles
- How to mend holes or rips
- Finishing techniques for a clean, professional look
- How to take these skills home and do your own alterations with confidence
🧺 What to Bring:
- 1–3 garments that are too long, too short or ripped
- A notebook + pencil for notes
We Provide:
- Sewing machines + tools
- Hand sewing materials (needles, thread, pins, scissors)
- Fabric for patching
