About this Event
It's back! We're holding another live session of our popular one-night webinar all about arts and culture PR. Join us on Zoom on Thursday, November 21, 6:30-8pm ET. (YES, the session will be recorded if you can't attend live!)

Are you an independent artist or grassroots company fighting for a slice of publicity? Are you wondering how to get some traction promoting your show or event? Large organizations have whole teams of PR professionals, but indie artists shouldn’t be left out in the cold just because they never learned how to effectively approach the press.
We’ll begin with about an hour of interactive instruction, with real-life examples. We’ll cover the role of arts journalists, what we need from you when you ask for coverage, what to do when you need a correction, how to build an effective long-term relationship with members of the press, and more. Then we’ll open the floor for a Q&A with the editors and local PR professionals Jill Ivey and Frank Luzi.
This session is geared toward independent artists or representatives of small organizations who want to learn the basics of PR, but everyone in our community is welcome, including experienced professionals looking for insight on the BSR process, or readers who want a peek behind the scenes of our coverage. Join us with a suggested $25 donation to BSR. (If this is a hardship for you, email [email protected]. No-one will be turned away for lack of funds.) This webinar is free for Friends of BSR. Our donors directly support the work of our writers and editors!
If you took last year's PR webinar, this one will cover similar ground, updated for 2024. We would be happy to see you again if you'd like a refresher, and you can bring your new questions to our panelists.
The webinar will be recorded and made available to all donors who register by November 21, so don’t worry if you’re not able to join us on the day: you can still access this resource on your own time, though we recommend attending live for the Q&A!
FYI, this will not be an opportunity to pitch BSR editors on covering specific projects or events, but it will be a good introduction to our editorial process, and will be full of tips for contacting us in the future.
We think arts journalism should be an ongoing conversation with our community, and we hope you can join us for this webinar, whether you’re an artist looking for PR tips, or a reader who wants a peek behind the scenes.
