About this Event

If you support people with Parkinsons in your local community in the Birmingham or you are a person living with Parkinsons from an ethnic minority background we need to hear from you so we can improve our offers and support to the community in more appropriate ways.

THIA CIC in partnership with Parkinson's UK will be hosting an event that identifies and engages with local charity organisations and community groups across the Birmingham whose beneficiaries live with Parkinson's.

We aim to reach out to and assist ethnic minority individuals with Parkinson's who are currently not engaged with our services.

Don't miss this opportunity to make a meaningful impact and connect with like-minded individuals dedicated to making a difference.

Be a part of this inspiring initiative and learn more about the funding opportunities available.

What is Parkinson's?

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition affecting approximately one in every 500 people in the UK, with an estimated 127,000 individuals currently diagnosed. It primarily manifests in symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and slowness of movement, alongside other challenges including tiredness, pain, depression, and constipation. As there is currently no cure for Parkinson’s, support from local charity organisations and community groups is crucial in enhancing the quality of life for affected individuals. From the “our reponse- report-commission race and ethnic disparities” Parkinson’s news claim that “4.7% of the people we support identify as minority ethnic, but we estimate that 7.1% of people with Parkinson's in the UK are from minority ethnic backgrounds.

We really want to hear people from those backgrounds about their journey and experiences living with this condition so we can improve our offers to them.

We are offering £20.00 gift vouchers for any one that meets the criteria of having a lived experience either directly or by supporting someone living with the condition.

It would be great if they would be willing to share for 5 - 10 minutes at the event about their journey and experiences. If you have any recommendations please contact us.
