Help is again needed to place over 500 flags by the graves of our departed veterans.
Meet at our Post at 9:00 AM Saturday, rain or shine. Please read the entire instructions below.
Helping to place flags on veterans’ graves
1. Bring something to poke a hole for the stick flag (long screwdriver, tent peg, etc. I have some tent pegs)
2. Meet at Castleton VFW Post 7337 at 9 AM Saturday for assignments and instructions
a. It is best to go out in groups of 3
i. Someone to carry the flags
ii. Someone to carry the veteran lists
iii. Someone to poke the holes and place the flags
3. Please note that all of our flags are marked on the stick just below the flag.
4. Look at every grave marker and check the list for the name.
a. Stay in assigned area and keep track of where you are so that you don’t overlap with another group or miss any grave marker
b. If found, put a mark or x in the box on the list (please do not cross names off)
c. If not found but there is veteran information on the grave marker, plainly write the name somewhere on the list.
d. If a name is there but spelled wrong, write the correction on the list next to the misspelled name and put a mark or x in the box (please do not cross off the misspelled name)
e. If a veteran does not already have a private, good 18-inch stick flag, place a flag
f. If a veteran has a private flag but the flag is not in good condition, remove the flag and place one of our flags (bring the worn flag back to the VFW for proper disposal)
5. Flags should be placed in front of the headstone or marker on the left (just past the hidden concrete base).
6. Flags should be placed deep enough to withstand wind and rain without touching the ground
7. Say the veteran’s name after placing the flag.
8. If you need more flags get them from another group in your section. Each section has more than enough flags.
9. Please offer to help with another assignment when you finish your assignment.
10. Extra flags should be given to other groups in your section or returned to the VFW.
THANK YOU!
