"Helicon show that musical
borders are there to be broken...
A force to be reckoned with." - Shindig
Helicon was formed by brothers John-Paul and
Gary Hughes in East Kilbride, Glasgow (hometown
of fellow band brothers and Fuzz Club label mates
The Jesus & Mary Chain). They signed to Fuzz Club
in 2017, releasing 3 studio albums, 2 live albums, 2
EPs and 2 stand-alone singles to date.
Over the last few years, the band has enjoyed
repeated spot plays of all new releases on BBC Radio
6 Music and has been officially playlisted by Spotify,
Apple Music and Deezer in the UK and USA. They’ve
toured UK/Europe many times including major
independent festival appearances at Liverpool
Psych Fest, Fuzz Club Eindhoven, Cosmosis,
Desertfest, Doonroosje, Stellar Swamp Fest,
Reverence Valada, Edinburgh Psych Fest and more.
Playing live shows with the likes of Wooden Shjips,
The Black Angels, Dead Skeletons and Spiritualized.
They have previously collaborated on recordings
with Tony Doogan (Mogwai), Will Carruthers
(Spacemen 3, The Brian Jonestown Massacre,
Spiritualized, Dead Skeletons), Mark Gardener (RIDE)
and LA-based DJ/Producer AL LOVER.
In January 2025, Helicon will record their 4th
studio album for Fuzz Club – a collaborative work
with AL LOVER. Exploring new sonic territory;
blending AL’s electronica, triphop, ambient and
breakbeat grooves with Helicon’s sitar/guitar-
driven psychedelia. Recording the album on the
Isle of Lewis, Scotland, and subsequent live shows
will form the basis of a short documentary film
‘HELICON – THE OUTER LANDS’ for release in 2025.
In 2023 their ‘God Intentions’ album won ‘Psych
Lovers’ Album of The Year’, made the long list
for Scottish Album of The Year and earned the
band a headline slot at the Scottish Alternative
Music Awards.
The Confederate Dead
The Confederate Dead, a London-based five-piece, craft reverb-soaked songs that explore themes of color and death. Their sound draws from ’60s psychedelia, Islamic prayer, and neo-psyche drone, blending influences like Galaxie 500, The Doors, Joy Division, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Live shows promise smoke, strobe lights, driving rhythms, and dynamic contrasts of noise and quiet tension.
