Helen Gillet is a world renowned musician, composer, cellist, bilingual singer (Belgian, French, and English), improviser, and looping artist. Her prolific career has won her awards of Offbeat Best of the Beat, Gambit Big Easy Awards, featured artist at New Orleans Jazz Museum and has been nominated three times, most recently in 2023, as a rising star in Downbeat Magazine's Critics Poll.
Cellist, singer and composer Helen Gillet’s right foot is so crucial to her music that she recently gave it a name: “My Pal Foot Foot.” It’s a reference to a 1969 anthem by female rock group The Shaggs, but it also gives credit where credit is due: Her mastery of the loop pedal, controlled by her right foot, makes it seem like there’s another artist on stage with her, “My right foot is like a live record producer, she definitely has a mind of her own. The key is to free up the pedals you are using with mastery and fluidity so you can dance, express and create something uniquely yours without noticing the technology."
