About this Event

On November 17th the Always Take Notes podcast will be in conversation with Helen Fielding at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. Helen, who studied English at St. Anne’s College, is the author of “Bridget Jones’s Diary”, “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason”, “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” and “Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries”. “Bridget Jones’s Diary” alone has sold more than 15m copies worldwide and been translated into 40 languages. The books have also been adapted into four hit movies; Helen was part of the screenwriting team on each film.

Always Take Notes is a podcast for and about writers and writing. Hosted by Simon Akam and Rachel Lloyd - both Oxford English graduates - the show aims to be informative (tackling vexing questions including how to negotiate fees, what makes an excellent book pitch and how to write for TV), as well as inspiring.

Simon and Rachel have interviewed bestselling and award-winning authors over hundreds of episodes about the secrets of their success and the hard lessons they have learnt along the way. Past guests include historians Peter Frankopan, Philippa Gregory, Antony Beevor, Lucy Hughes-Hallett, Max Hastings and Antonia Fraser, novelists Ian McEwan, Monica Ali, Lee Child, Elif Shafak, Robert Harris, Jojo Moyes and Harlan Coben, journalists Tina Brown, Gary Younge, Patrick Radden Keefe and Michael Lewis, as well as agents, publishers and newspaper editors. The book, “Always Take Notes: Advice From Some of the World’s Greatest Writers”, has recently been published in a new edition.
