ANNOUNCING ‘HELD IN THE TIDE’, A BRAND NEW OPERA FOR JERSEY 🇯🇪ArtHouse Jersey and Jersey Opera House are thrilled to announce Held in the Tide, an ambitious new opera rooted in the voices, landscapes, and lived experiences of our Island. Premiering on Thursday 26 & Friday 27 March at 7.30pm at the newly reopened Jersey Opera House, Held in the Tide marks a landmark cultural moment, a contemporary opera shaped directly by Jersey’s people, performed by Jersey-born professionals alongside a community chorus, and rooted in the living stories of our Island.
Blending classical, folk and electronic music, this one-hour opera tells a powerful, poetic story that begins with a storm, a shoreline, and the sudden re-emergence of three long-buried stones. As the past surfaces, so do questions of memory, belonging, identity, and how we balance progress with preservation.
Led by internationally acclaimed Jersey-born mezzo-soprano Georgia Mae Bishop the cast and musicians are all Island-born, and the work itself has been developed through a year-long collaboration with young Islanders aged 18 to 30. Performed in everyday, relatable language, Held in the Tide is welcoming, accessible, and an ideal first opera experience (recommended for ages 10+).
🎶 OPEN CALL: Join the chorus
ArtHouse Jersey is also inviting 20–25 Islanders aged 18+ to be part of this world premiere as chorus members. No auditions. No professional experience required, just a love of singing and a desire to be part of something special. Rehearsals run from January to March 2026, culminating in two performances on the Opera House stage.
