Time: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Location: ART 3.434, 2300 Trinity Street
LLILAS presents "Heitor dos Prazeres and Transatlantic Modernism," a talk by Lozano Long Visiting Resource Professor Maurício Barros de Castro, for the CLAVIS Permanent Seminar in Latin American Art.
One of Brazil's most important samba musicians and painters, Heitor dos Prazeres (1898–1966) was categorized by many art critics during his active period as a naive or primitive artist. In this presentation, Maurício Barros de Castro re-evaluates the artist's work from the perspective of the interconnected artistic and intellectual movements of transatlantic modernism.
