Welcome to the Heirloom Workshop Series at Bouquets of the Valley, where we explore the authentic art of handcrafting soulful, lasting items rooted in New England garden traditions. In the 1970s and 80s, Connecticut's Caprilands Herb Farm was the heart of herbal culture, led by the legendary "First Lady of Herbs," Adelma Grenier Simmons. Through her themed gardens, lectures, and iconic books, she transformed herb gardening from a quiet hobby into a celebrated, communal lifestyle.
We’re gathering for a warm, hands-on evening to recreate her classic, herb-heavy style. If you’ve ever admired the pages of A Year in Wreaths, you know this signature look: deeply textured, full of life, and smelling like a true, sun-warmed garden. It is a beautiful way to connect with nature, share an experience with community, and craft something with genuine intention and care.
What we’ll do together:
• Build the base: We'll start with natural grapevine to weave a sturdy, traditional foundation.
• Layer the herbs: We’ll incorporate plenty of dried sage, thyme, and rosemary to create that unforgettable, aromatic signature scent.
• Add the color: We'll weave in a rich variety of dried greenery and botanicals, including eucalyptus, ruscus, grasses, roses, yarrow, hydrangea, statice, and cockscomb.
• The little details: We’ll finish each piece with intricate, loving touches—incorporating seed pods, moss, and simple ribbons for a truly authentic feel.
What you’ll take home:
• A handmade, dried botanical wreath designed to last and bring joy to your space.
• A handwritten care card.
• A 10% voucher to use at the shop.
