About this Event

Heidi Siddle

Professor of Musculoskeletal Health and Honorary Consultant Podiatrist, University of Leeds

Professor Heidi Siddle was raised in Gloucestershire and educated at Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School. She qualified as a podiatrist in 1998 from the University of Salford before joining the Podiatry and Rheumatology teams at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2000.

She went on to complete an MSc in Advancing Clinical Practice at the University of Huddersfield in 2004 and was awarded her PhD from the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds in 2013.

Professor Siddle has played a pioneering role in clinical academia. She was the first non-medical NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Leeds and the first podiatrist in the UK to be awarded an NIHR Senior Clinical Lectureship. She currently holds a unique joint clinical academic position within the University of Leeds School of Medicine as Professor of Musculoskeletal Health and Honorary Consultant Podiatrist.

Professor Siddle has also contributed to major national, government-led initiatives aimed at expanding the clinical academic workforce within the NHS. She has been particularly committed to supporting individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, helping to secure external fellowship funding and develop the next generation of clinical academics. In April 2023, she was appointed as a member of the prestigious NIHR Doctoral Award Selection Committee.

In her inaugural lecture, Professor Siddle will review her research career, which has been defined by a “feet-up” approach to improving musculoskeletal health. Through collaborative partnerships, she has developed and sustained a highly successful programme of research with national and international recognition, focusing on foot and ankle disorders, rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases, diabetes, and primary care. Her work has advanced understanding of disease mechanisms, informed interventions for patients with long-term conditions, and influenced clinical practice and healthcare delivery.
