SPEAKERS:Dr Colm McNaughton, Zach Gilles Palmer, Dr Elizabeth Humphreys, with introductory comments by Alistair Davidson.
This symposium aims to explore the application of Gramsci’s thought—particularly the concepts of hegemony, resistance, and political will—to contemporary events and challenges through the expertise of our range of speakers. Gramsci's insight is paramount in our contemporary understandings of politics from the Marxist perspective, but not often is it talked about explicitly.
Gaetano Greco both volunteered at the New International Bookshop and served in the committee of management at NIBS from 2020 until his unexpected passing earlier this year. He was an active member of the left in Melbourne for many decades, known for his tireless campaigning and his orange beret. Gaetano's interest in Gramsci's political theory was one of the driving forces behind his critique of capitalism - to honour our dear comrade NIBS, Search Foundation and FILEF bring you the first in a series of seminars on this seminal theorist.
