Surprise! We're back. 💜
It feels like a more important time than ever for us to run a HeartBeats. At a point in history where chaos and darkness seems to be consuming the world. The powers that be are doing what they can to polarise and divide us. But we are smarter than that. We know that light always conquers darkness. That love wins over fear. That kindness eradicates hate.
Instead of culture being the thing that divides us, or an enemy to fight against, let's remember that diverse cultures are part of what makes this world so beautiful. From the foods, to music, art, literature, and landscapes. On a human level, we can all make the individual decision to coexist, to love one another, and see the humanity of the other.
So this month, we are coming together for a very special 'Culture Edition', in which you are invited to share your culture on the HeartBeats stage. ALL are welcome here. Whether you're Australian (indigenous or otherwise), Kiwi, Greek, Moroccan, Latin, African, Israeli, Palestinian, Iranian, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Black, Asian, Arab, Caucasian, and everything in-between.. your culture is welcome here. All we ask is for you to bring kindness and respect with you.
Prepare music, poetry, or a performance from your culture. Share with the HeartBeats community what makes your culture beautiful. Feel free to dress in traditional clothing if you feel inspired. We ask that you refrain from bringing any flags to this event.
We're excited to have two special humans dropping us into the space this month. Welcoming Simba & Ash Brown to the HeartBeats stage for the first time.
fyi: We are not going to be running these events monthly anymore. However, they will be more on a pop-up basis.
P.s. Did we mention it's our 2-year anniversary since launching HeartBeats!

What is HeartBeats?
At its core, HeartBeats is an open mic - but it's really so much more. It's a space to feel welcomed and supported, to share what's on your heart with a present and considerate audience.
Music, poetry, comedy, or whatever moves you - this is a night for open expression. With so much talent in the HeartBeats community, we recommend arriving early to pop your name on the list.
* Last time it worked well to call out the names at the start, so you're not on edge all afternoon wondering if you'll be called. Therefore, we will be drawing 10 names from a hat at 3:15pm.
We won’t be able to fit everyone in, and we're sorry in advance if you miss out on stage time - but that's just more reason to keep coming back. There is also never any pressure for you to perform or share - you're always welcome to just kick back on a cushion and enjoy the event.
* Please note that this is a drug and alcohol free event.
