About this Event
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a nationally accepted training program that teaches the skills needed to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse challenges and crises for people 18 years and up. Individuals trained in MHFA:
· Grow their knowledge of signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental illness and addictions.
· De-escalate mental health crises
· Can identify multiple types of professional and self-help resources for individuals with mental illness or addiction.
· Help reduce stigma surrounding mental health illnesses
· Show increased mental wellness themselves.
Mental Health First Aid interventions are akin to CPR. Just as CPR assists an individual having a heart attack, MHFA helps assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. Mental Health First Aiders learn a simple 5-step strategy that includes assessing risk, respectfully listening to and supporting the individual in crisis, and identifying appropriate professional help and other supports. These skills are useful when encountering people in our professional capacity, as well in our personal lives. MHFA will cover mental health illnesses such as depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis, and substance use disorders.
We are currently offering Mental Health First Aid as an in person class. The in-person option is 8 hours. you must be present for the entire event to receive full credit and your certificate.
