Your Topic:

Healthcare Wars: When Politics Turns Markets Into Weapons
What happens when access to healthcare becomes a moral and political battleground? This talk explores how the intersection of political violence, morality and capitalism can turn healthcare markets into instruments of exclusion, shaping where people can safely access care. It also examines how individuals navigate these hostile environments—by resisting, negotiating access, or seeking care elsewhere.

Your Speaker:

Dr Rohan Venkatraman, a self-described "accidental academic", completed his Masters and PhD in marketing and consumer culture at the University of Melbourne in 2021. Now a lecturer at Deakin University, his research focuses on the relationship between contemporary capitalism and everyday life. He is especially interested in how politics and capitalism intersect, and the ways in which that intersection shapes the lived experiences of marginalised people (with an emphasis on experiences queer and LGBTQIA+ people), as well as how that intersection engenders resistance.
