About this Event

Description:

This workshop will delve into the challenges faced by youth and young adults re-entering society after incarceration, a population often overlooked and underserved. We will explore the concept of social determinants of health, which significantly impact this group's well-being and reintegration. Through sharing lessons learned and best practices, we aim to empower youth workforce partners and members with innovative strategies to support those transitioning back into their communities. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the unique barriers faced by this population and learn about healing-centered engagement strategies to foster holistic well-being. By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, we hope to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for young people returning to community.

Speaker Bio:

Kia Wright is the Founder and Executive Director of VOICES Corporation. As a lifelong Indianapolis resident, she felt an urgency to be an agent in restoring hope to communities. She holds a Master's degree in Criminology from Indiana State University and with a decade of experience as a Juvenile Probation Officer (2004-2012), Wright developed a deep understanding of systemic trauma and the root causes of delinquent behavior. Inspired by the power of the arts to foster healing and transformation, she founded VOICES in 2010. Today, VOICES serves over 850 youth and families annually across Indiana through programs focused on communal healing, alternative education, and economic mobility. Wright is a dedicated community leader, serving on the boards of Invent Learning Hub Charter School and the Indiana Juvenile Justice Oversight Committee. She is also a member of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives to Detention Steering Committee, CareSource Indiana Health Equity Collaborative, and the National Youth Employment Coalition. A graduate of the Indiana Youth Services Association Executive Journey Fellowship, Wright resides on the Northwest side of Indianapolis with her husband, Trey (VOICES Chief Operating Officer), and their two sons.
