Healing & Somatics: Workshop

Presented by Tulsa Artist Fellow Micaela Tobin, this workshop is led by interdisciplinary artist Anna Luisa Petrisko, co-founder of Body Ether Institute.

Participants are guided through the Body Ether Light Exercises—a series of accessible, meditative practices that combine breath, voice, attention, and subtle movement to explore the body as a site of perception, memory, and transformation. Rooted in Petrisko’s work across experimental opera and performance, these exercises approach somatics as an artistic and collective practice.

The session unfolds as a structured, immersive journey, supported by live sound from Micaela Tobin and Baseck. Layering voice, electronics, and ambient composition, the sound environment acts as both guide and collaborator—shaping a shared space for listening, sensation, and rest.

The workshop concludes with an extended live sonic integration, inviting participants to settle, reflect, and experience resonance as a collective field.

Participants will:

• engage simple, repeatable somatic and listening practices
• explore voice and sound as tools for awareness and connection
• experience live, artist-driven sound as an embodied environment

This workshop is open to all levels, ages, and bodies. Participation is flexible—you may engage seated, lying down, standing, or simply observe.

Please bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow, eye mask, or anything that supports your comfort.

works across experimental opera, video art, performance, sound, installation, textiles, and interactive media. Her practice engages the sacred alongside technological speculation, exploring ancient and future imaginaries through a nonlinear experience of time. She is a co-founder of Body Ether Institute, an artist-led platform for somatic and spiritual inquiry.

GUEST ARTISTS

Composer and sound artist works across experimental opera, using her soprano voice to push beyond conventional forms and explore the connection between the physical and “inner” voice as a means of empowerment, often challenging colonial narratives. Integrating voice with electronics, ritualized gesture, and amplified object-symbolism, she creates work that is both alluring and demanding. She premiered her opera film BAKUNAWA: Opera of the Seven Moons at REDCAT in 2021, followed by APOLAKI: Opera of the Scorched Earth in 2023, continuing her focus on precolonial Philippine mythology. A recipient of the MAP Fund, NPN Creation & Development Fund, and the Civitella Ranieri Fellowship, she is currently based in Tulsa as a 2025–2027 Tulsa Artist Fellowship awardee and has taught voice for over a decade, including at California Institute of the Arts and through HOWL SPACE, which she co-founded with Carmina Escobar.

, known professionally as Baseck, is a Mexican-American sound artist, performer, and instrument designer with 30+ years in electronic music. Raised in Chicano culture in Lancaster, CA, he found liberation through sound at age 12 via L.A.’s underground rave scene. His practice merges live performance, experimental synthesis, fashion, and hardware innovation. Baseck has designed original synth modules with Noise Engineering (Variatic Basicus), Malekko (Voltage Block), and Steady State Fate/BII Electronics (Triptych). He’s performed at festivals including Moogfest, Boiler Room, and Synthposium, and collaborated with Genesis P-Orridge, Alessandro Cortini (NIN), Caterina Barbieri, and Charli XCX. His label/event series Hyped On Experience supports underground artists through sound, DIY culture, and wearable design. As an educator, he’s led workshops at CalArts, Moogfest, and Synth Library. Now based in Tulsa, his work centers joy, improvisation, and vibration as tools for healing and sonic freedom.
