About the Programme
Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyle for Diabetes (HEAL-D) is a diabetes information and support programme that’s been developed in partnership with African and Caribbean communities.
It contains diabetes information and advice specifically suited to the needs of people of black African and black Caribbean heritage.
HEAL-D involves 8 group sessions (2 hours each).
What to Expect
Sessions focus on how to live well with diabetes, including diet and physical activity guidance, with some group activities (e.g., walking, gym, dance) led by qualified professionals who ensure safety and adapt activities for all abilities.

- Practical tools to help manage type 2 diabetes day-to-day
- Culturally relevant discussions around food, lifestyle, and wellbeing
- Evidence-based guidance informed by research, clinical knowledge, and patient experience
HEAL-D promotes healthy behaviour change and increased confidence in diabetes self-management, helping participants take positive steps towards better health.
Commitment
This programme runs over 8 sessions, fortnightly.
👉 Participants are asked to commit to attending all sessions to gain the full benefit of the programme.
Who Is This Programme For?
You may be able to join if you are:
· Prediabetic or have type 2 diabetes
· Of black African or black Caribbean heritage
· Aged 18+
· An English speaker living in Leicester
Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.
