Broom Street Theater seeks performers for “Head on a Silver Platter: In Defense of Salome.” Written and directed by Jan Levine Thal, this drama includes a modern parallel to the Salome story, Salome herself (who appears on a different plane of existence), and a dancer or possibly two, who must also deliver lines. The modern story focuses on a teenager, Sally Addams, who is misled by a right-wing podcaster with dire consequences for her family and friends. DANCER(S) — any age. Must deliver lines.
SALLY ADDAMS – female, 15 (prefer actor 18 or older)
BROCK LEE—male, 15, Sally’s boyfriend (prefer actor 18 or older)
CANDACE WORTHINGTON—Sally’s mother, 40s or so
TOBIAS WORTHINGTON – Candace’s husband, 40s-60s or so
JOHN BAKER – male, any age over 30
ISAAC COHEN – male, any age over 30
MIRIAM BLOOM—female, any age over 30
NEWSCASTER, VOICE, GUARD (one actor) – any gender identity, any age over 25
Audition Dates: Sunday, May 11 & Monday, May 12
Time: 7pm Dance auditions, 8pm Acting auditions. You may audition in both categories
Location: Youth Room of the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center, 504 S Brearly St, Madison, WI 53703.
Dance auditions will be conducted by choreographer Heidi Hakseth. Acting auditions will be conducted by director Jan Levine Thal and will include cold readings from the scripts and easy, fun improv. If you wish to perform a monologue, please do. We want all actors to arrive at 8pm so we can see you together.
Performers 18 or older of all experience levels and every ethnicity are encouraged to attend.
Rehearsals will begin September 2 for three days, 6:30-9:30. After that, starting September 7, rehearsals will be Sundays through Thursdays 6:30-9:30
Performances are three weekends including three Sunday matinees, opening Friday October 10 and closing Sunday October 26.
