About this Event
Are you interested in local food? Urban agriculture? Maybe you are a gardener or future beekeeper? Maybe you just happen to bee curious? On this experience we will learn all about bees and what we can do to support them. Don't worry! We have the equipment to keep you sting free.
HCC established a rooftop apiary in the Fall of 2019 with 5 small "nucleus" hives. The bees are managed by Paul Rabaut and several sustainability interns in an effort to engage people around the concept of sustainability. This tour will highlight the Ybor sustainability efforts by looking at some bee friendly plants, exploring the beehive, looking for the queen, tasting some fresh honey, and enjoying the views from the roof the rooftop apiary.
We have all of the protective gear from the waste up. You just need light colored long pants, closed toe shoes, and a smile.
If you know you have severe allergic reactions to bee stings, you are not allowed to visit the bee hives in person. By signing up for this tour, you are confirming that you have no known allergies to bee stings.
