FAQs
Remote Attendance Possible?
No. Unfortunately this training is not set up to accommodate a mix of in-person and remote attendees.
Is it just lecturing for 4 days straight?
No way! This is a fun class - intense, but fun. ClearSky uses lectures, team discussions, break-out group sessions, and one-on-one interaction to ensure maximum participant learning. Quizzes, practice PHA sessions, and mentorship are used to verify participant understanding. Participation in all discussions and workshops is expected.
What is the class size?
The class size is limited to 15 participants, to ensure maximum effectiveness of the collaborative training portion.
Who is the instructor?
Ms. Leslie Parchomchuk, P.Eng, is a chemical engineer with an extensive background in both safety and risk management, and process engineering. She has taught hundreds of PHA courses worldwide. In addition, Ms. Parchomchuk has conducted innumerable PHA studies using various methods at facilities worldwide. Her PHA experience includes companies in petroleum refining, petrochemical and specialty chemical processing, oil & gas exploration, marine, land & rail terminals, pulp & paper, food production and storage, metals processing, and pipelines. She is in high demand for her effective, efficient, and enjoyable PHA facilitation skills, from companies around the world.
Who should attend?
PHA Leadership Training is a core competency requirement for most process engineers, project engineers, process safety management professionals, operators involved in conducting day-to-day PHA studies, as well as technical professionals involved in an operating or engineering environment which requires PHAs.
I don't know anything about PHA/HAZOP. Can I attend?
Yes! While it is recommended that participants be familiar with the concepts and application of hazard analysis, no prior experience is required. It is recommended that participants have experience with facilities operations or design, and be able to read Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). But if you don't, it isn't a requirement - just let us know.
Remind me, what is PHA?
Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) is a term applied to the multiple techniques available to assess the hazards of a design or operation of a system or process. Some of the commonly known techniques are HAZOP, What-If?, Checklist, and FMEA. PHA has been traditionally applied to facilities such as oil refining and chemical processing; however PHA has proven to be useful in any operation that is inherently hazardous. PHA studies are now also commonly used in areas such as oil & gas exploration & production, explosives handling, food production, power generation, and medical devices.
Are there any discounts?
Registrants qualify for a 10% course discount if 3 or more people from the same company registering for the same course.
Do I need to bring anything?
It is recommended that you become familiar with your company's PHA Policy/Procedure (if available), and bring a copy of your Risk Matrix for your personal reference.
Optional: bring your laptop computer with your preferred PHA documentation software. ClearSky will provide sample P&IDs. However, the participants may want to bring P&IDs from their own process or projects.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
