About this Event
Join us for a guided tour of the Hayward Shoreline during a king tide event to see firsthand how rising sea levels will impact our community. During this tour, participants will explore the beautiful Hayward Shoreline, discover local flora and fauna, and learn about current and future flooding risks due to sea level rise.
This tour is organized by Greenbelt Alliance in partnership with the Hayward Shoreline Resilience Collaborative, a pioneering effort to protect Hayward's vital shoreline landscape through nature-based solutions like horizontal "living" levees. These innovative projects combine flood protection with habitat restoration and public recreation—working with nature, not against it, to safeguard our communities from up to three feet of projected sea level rise.
Experienced education staff from the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) will guide you through the trail, sharing insights about the local ecosystem and ongoing work to address sea level rise and tidal events. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.
